Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep
those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. Revelation 1:3

Creation and the Creator

The Story of Creation

By whom were the heavens and the earth created?

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1.

Note – Here is the Bible’s challenge to every form of error, from the Biblical infidel who says there is no God to the polytheist who says there are many gods. The bible is the Book of God.

By what means did God bring the heavens and earth into existence?

“By the word pf the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the water of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” Psalm 33:6-9.

Through whom did God create all things?

“For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” Colossians 1:16.  “All things were made by him [literally, through him”]; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3. (See also Hebrews 1:1,2.)

What was God’s object in making the earth?

“For this is what the Lord says – he who created the heavens, he is God; he has fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited – he says, I am the Lord, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:18.

How did God provide inhabitants for the world He had created?

“The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.” “So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and brought her to the man.” Genesis 2:7, 21, 22.

In what image was man created?

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27.

What glorious position did God assign man?

“What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet.”

Psalm 8:4-6.

What home did God make for man in the beginning?

“Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.” “The Lord took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Genesis 2:8, 15.

How did God provide for the perpetuation of life?

“And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground – trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.” Verse 9.

What simple plan did God devise to test man’s loyalty and obedience?

“”And the Lord commanded the man, “You are to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” Verses 16,17.

By what power are all things upheld?

“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.” Hebrews 1:3.

What do the heavens declare?

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.” Psalm 19: 1,2.

What may be perceived through the things that are made?

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what God has made, so that men are without excuse.” Romans 1:20.

The New Creation

Whose workmanship is the Christian?

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10.

In view of the curse upon the earthy creation, what has God promised?

“Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.” Isaiah 65:17. (See Revelation 21:1.)

The Instinct of Worship and Brotherhood

What contrast is drawn in the Scriptures between the Creator and false gods?

“Tell them this: “These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.” Jeremiah 10:11.

To whom is our worship justly due?

“Come, let us bow down and worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.”

Psalm 95:6.

What is the true basis of the brotherhood of man?

“Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another?” Malachi 2:10.

The Astronomer Speaks

One great man said, “The undevout astronomer is mad.” He looks into the star-decked sky and sees not God, is blind in his soul and abnormal in his mind. General Mitchell the astronomer said, “If there is anything which can lead the mind upward to the omnipotent Ruler of the Universe, and give to it approximate knowledge of His incomprehensible attributes, it is to be found in the grandeur and beauty of His works.”
