Hope in God


What is the relation between faith and hope?

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Hebrews 11:1.


Why were the Scriptures written?

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Romans 15:4.


Why should God’s wonderful works be rehearsed to the children?

“We will not hide them from our children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.” Psalm 78:4-7.  


From Despair to Living Hope

In what condition are those who are without Christ?


“Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (that done in the body by the hands of men) – remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from the citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.” Ephesians 2:11,12.


What does hope become to the Christian?

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.” Hebrews 6:19.


Who have hope in their death?

“When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge.” Proverbs 14:32.


In bereavement, from what hopeless sorrow are Christians delivered?

“Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who have fallen asleep, or grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13.  


Unto what has the resurrection of Christ begotten us?

“Praise be to the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he had given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”  

1 Peter 1:3.


What is the Christian’s hope called?

“While we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our great god and Savior, Jesus Christ.” Titus 2:13.  


At what time did Paul expect to realize his hope?


“Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:8.


What does the prophet Jeremiah say is a good thing for a man to do?

“It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentation 3:26.


Purifying, Abounding, Enduring Hope

What will this hope lead one to do?


“Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.” 1 John 3:3.


What is said of the hope of the hypocrite?

“Such is the destiny of all who forgets God; so perishes the hope of the godless. What he trusts in is fragile, what he relies on is a spider’s web.” Job 8:13,14. 


What is the condition of one whose hope is in God?

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.” Psalm 146:5. “But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”  Jeremiah 17:7.


In what may the child of God abound?

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13.


In what do Christians rejoice?

“Through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:2.   


What will prevent us from being put to shame?

“And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Verse 5.


In the time of the Great Tribulation, who will be the hope of God’s people?

“The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem; the earth and sky will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the people of Israel.” Joel 3:16.


What inspiring words were spoken to such as hope in God?

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” Psalm 31:24.


How long should our hope endure?

“We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure.” Hebrews 6:11.

It buoys us up while passing through

This wilderness of woe.


“It points us to a land of rest

Where saints with Christ will reign;

Where we shall meet the loved of earth,

And never part again;


“A land where sin can never come,

Temptations ne’er annoy,

Where happiness will ever dwell,

And that without alloy.”
