Healthful Living
Lesson 19
Marking Code: HL
Marking Color: Blue
Key Text: 3 John 2
1.
3 John 2. God wants us to
prosper physically and be in health
just as much as He wants us to
prosper spiritually. God communicates
to us through the channel of our
minds, so it is important that we
have healthy bodies and clear minds.
2.
Romans 12: 1,2. Gods
request that we keep our bodies
healthy for His service is a
reasonable expectation.
Likewise, His guidelines for keeping
us healthy are also logical and
reasonable.
Galatians 6:7.
3.
1 Corinthians 6: 19,20. Our
bodies belong to God; therefore, they
are holy and should be
treated as such.
4.
1 Corinthians 3: 16,17. We can
defile the temple of our bodies by
unhealthful practices-including what
we eat and drink.
5.
Isaiah 55:2. God commands us to
eat only those foods that are good
for us.
6.
Genesis 1:29. The
original diet God gave humans beings
included fruits, nuts, and grains.
Genesis 3:17,18.
Vegetables were added later, after
sin came into the world.
7.
Genesis 9:1-4. Following the
flood, God allowed human beings to
eat flesh food.
8.
Leviticus 11:1-20. God
carefully defines clean
and unclean animals-those
that may be eaten and those that may
not.
Genesis 7:2. This
distinction between clean
and unclean animals was
delineated at the time of the
Flood-long before the Mosaic
ceremonial laws.
Deuteronomy 14:2-20.
9.
Proverbs 20:1. The Bible urges
Gods people to abstain from
alcoholic beverages-including wine.
1 Corinthians 6:10.
Drunkards will not inherit the
kingdom of God.
1 Timothy 5:23. This
text is referring to medicine; it is
not recommending drinking alcohol.
10. Revelation
21:27. Heaven will not contain
anything that defiles or corrupts.
This would certainly include
recreational drugs, tobacco in all
its forms, and other unhealthful
practices.
11. 1
Corinthians 10:31. Whatever we
do, we are to do everything in a way
that will glorify God-and that
includes what we eat or drink.
